Pip on Stage! (1996)

This was one of the most enjoyable portrait sessions I’ve ever done. Pip was a student from Oxford doing drama and just loves the camera! I had built a studio at home in Howard Street, Oxford, again, a grand description of hanging black material and getting out some theatre lights, and we worked literally around a single chair. The range of expressions and relaxed freedom that she demonstrated for the camera was just an amazing thing to watch. I’d like to think it’s helped by my approach to her as a model but I suspect she is just a natural. The images are funny, sensuous, thought-provoking, and delightful. Perhaps the best way just to share this huge acting range of this young woman is to share one of the contact sheets from the session!
